Description:
The University of Georgia equestrian team will start the regular season tied with Texas A&M as the No. 1 team in the nation, according to the Preseason Women's Intercollegiate Equestrian National Coaches Poll. The UGA Women's Equestrian team has had a "decade of dominance," with National Championships in 2003, 2004, 2008, 2009, and 2010. The team is comprised of both Western and Hunt Seat riders and competition is conducted in a dual-meet format. Teams compete in four events at each dual meet: English Equitation over Fences, English Equitation, Western Horsemanship, and Western Reining. In each event, a mininum of four atheletes from each team ride head-to-head on the same set of horses, which are provided by the host school. Riders are assigned to the horse in a random draw and face the challenge of riding an unfamiliar horse after a brief timed warm-up period. A point is earned when a rider's score is higher than their opponent riding the same horse.
