Phyllis Blumberg, director of the Teaching and Learning Center at the University of the Sciences, will deliver this interactive workshop designed to help faculty work through a new personal growth model developed for those who teach. Using this model, those who teach will have new and rich strategies to promote deep and intentional learning in their students.Blumberg will address four hierarchical levels of growth during this workshop. They are the following: define the essential aspects of your teaching; critically reflect on how you teach (many valid information sources can inform your teaching);incorporate evidence-based teaching methods by reading the literature on teaching in higher education; and conduct rigorous systematic investigations of your teaching. Those who attend this session will learn how to incorporate these “growth” strategies over time to progressively teach better as each additional growth layer is added. Evidence-based approaches to teaching will be emphasized and self-assessment rubrics that foster teaching improvement will be explored.
