Marcia Wallace, who played Bart Simpson’s fourth-grade teacher on The Simpsons for 23 years, has died, RumorFix has confirmed.
She was 70. Her cause of death is not known.
The Simpsons executive producer Al Jean wrote on Facebook, “She was beloved by all at ‘The Simpsons’ and we intend to retire her irreplaceable character.”
He added that any rumors that he was going to kill off the Emmy-award winning character early were not true, “Earlier we had discussed a potential storyline in which a character passed away. This was not Marcia’s Edna Krabappel. Marcia’s passing is unrelated and again, a terrible loss for all who had the pleasure of knowing her.”
Marcia starred for six seasons as Carol Kester on The Bob Newhart Show in the 1970s and reprised the role in the 1990s on Murphy Brown.
The quick-witted actress was a regular guest star on shows in the 1970s and 1980s including The Love Boat, Fantasy Island,Gimme a Break!, ALF, Night Court, Charles in Charge and Magnum, P.I.
