This is the hub for all your Hokies who were named to pre-season award watch lists. It will also keep you up to date when the players either make the cut to the semifinalist or finalist round, or are eliminated from said watch lists. It may also lead to post-season player reviews which will be contained in a different stream. If a Virginia Tech player wins a post-season award, it will most likely be announced in a different stream.
Virginia Tech quarterback Logan Thomas has been named to the pre-season watch list for the Davey O'Brien Award, which is given annually to the top quarterback in the nation by the Davey O'Brien Foundation.
Thomas was one of 34 quarterbacks to make the pre-season watch list for the second consecutive season, despite a down year on the field in 2012. Thomas threw for 2,976 yards in 2012, actually a higher average per game than his 2011 season, but also threw 16 interceptions to go along with his 18 touchdown passes. His completion percentage also dropped from 60 percent to right around 51 percent. He did up his rushing total from 469 yards to 524, leading the team in that department, but scored two fewer touchdowns on the ground and averaged a lower yards per carry number.
Thomas becomes the third Hokie to be named to multiple award watch lists this pre-season, joining Antone Exum and Jack Tyler. He also joins James Gayle (Bednarik), Andrew Miller (Outland) and kicker Cody Journell (Groza).
