Florida SP Karsten Whitson was the No. 9 overall pick in 2010 and did not agree to a contract with the San Diego Padres. He turned down $2.1 million.
Three injury-hindered years later, he has fallen more than 1,000 spots. The Washington Nationals selected Whitson today in the MLB draft with the last pick of the 37th round, No. 1,126 overall.
Whitson, who will be a red-shirt junior next season if he returns to Florida, sat out all of 2013 with a shoulder injury. He also missed time due to injury last year, when he finished 4-0 in 14 games with a 3.51 ERA.
As a freshman, Whitson went 8-1 with a 2.40 ERA and helped the Gators reach the College World Series finals.
