Florida pitcher Jonathon Crawford has a decision to make. The Detroit Tigers took Crawford, from Okeechobee HS, with the 20th overall pick in the MLB Draft on Thursday.
He is the 14th first-round selection in program history and the highest drafted Gators pitcher since John Burke went No. 6 in 1991.
As a junior, Crawford can return to UF next season if he does not reach an agreement with Detroit. He has until July 12 to sign with the Tigers.
He could join former teammate Hudson Randall, who was picked by Detroit last year.
Crawford’s Florida career has been outstanding. He broke through as a sophomore by throwing a no-hitter in the regional round. Last season, he went 3-6 with a 3.84 ERA as the Gators finished 29-30.
