The annual release of college football betting lines is fun for the gamblers and pundits around the world, but important for the average fan because of how well it sets the table for the upcoming season. From betting lines released in June, like today's set of spreads proffered by the Golden Nugget, we can understand what the general feeling of smart people who want to make money is about the college football season.
For the Florida Gators, those betting lines suggest a rugged SEC schedule may provide a pair of speed bumps in an otherwise smooth 2013.
Here's the full set of Florida lines:
|Miami||Sept. 7||Sun Life Stadium, Miami||Florida -2.5|
|Tennessee||Sept. 21||Ben Hill Griffin Stadium||Florida -12|
|Kentucky||Sept 28||Commonwealth Stadium, Lexington, Ky.||Florida -20|
|Arkansas||Oct. 5||Ben Hill Griffin Stadium||Florida -17|
|LSU||Oct. 12||Tiger Stadium, Baton Rouge, La.||LSU -4|
|Missouri||Oct. 19||Faurot Field, Columbia, Mo.||Florida -6|
|Georgia||Nov. 2||EverBank Field, Jacksonville||Georgia -4|
|South Carolina||Nov. 16||Williams-Brice Stadium, Columbia, S.C.||South Carolina -5|
|Florida State||Nov. 30||Ben Hill Griffin Stadium||Florida -2|
Nothing really jumps out at me here as totally, though Florida being a bigger underdog to South Carolina than LSU (assuming home field advantage is relatively equal) is a little surprising, as is Florida being favored by less than a field goal over Miami. If I were looking for values, I would look there first.
The Golden Nugget also has over/unders for the Florida-LSU game (41.5), Florida-Georgia game (44.5), and Florida-FSU game (44), and all of those seem a little low to me.
How about y'all? Are you upset there's no line for Florida's game against Georgia Southern? Surprised there isn't a line for Florida's Homecoming tilt against Vanderbilt? (Tennessee's favored by one over Vandy at home, so we could probably expect Florida to be a two-touchdown favorite over the Commodores.) Confused by any of the lines?
