We were looking for a Maryland reaction to Coach K’s comments about never scheduling Maryland again, and here they are, courtesy of something called the Baltimore Sports Blitz, a product of the Baltimore Sun (we missed it when it ran):
“You have to love Duke coach Mike Krzyzewski. He always thinks his program is better than yours and that it’s above reproach. His holier-than-thou attitude about Maryland leaving for the Big Ten is getting a little tiresome.
“He’s Saint K.
“Did Krzyzewski even once think that Maryland might not want to schedule Duke going forward? Nope, the Terps are beneath him. As he said, “… we won’t schedule Maryland.”
“Maybe Mark Turgeon doesn’t want to schedule Duke. The thought probably never crossed Saint K’s mind.
“I guess he doesn’t want to knock Elon, Vermont or Gardner-Webb off the schedule for a Big Ten school.
“Here’s hoping Turgeon doesn’t take any of Saint K’s crap this year. We’re sick of it.”
Well, good news! Duke won’t offend you at Comcast again and there are only three more chances for the teams to meet, with only one guaranteed. Short timers just have to get through the transition. Penn State and Rutgers will ease your pain.
Speaking of Maryland, there’s nothing particularly new here – it’s really just a rundown – but it is a good look at where the ACC-Maryland dispute stands currently. As you probably know, Maryland doesn’t want to pay the conference exit fee, and as a result, the ACC is witholding revenues, which really hits the Terps hard as the program is basically broke.
