Bulldog busted: Holyfield arrested on pot charge

Athens Sports Radio 960 the Ref is reporting the arrest of Georgia Bulldog running back Elijah Holyfield. The son of former heavyweight boxing champ Evander Holyfield is said to be facing misdemeanor marijuana possession charges.  The arresting agency is listed as the University of Georgia campus police. The charges reportedly include possession of drug related objects and possession of less than an ounce of marijuana.

- Holyfield was booked into the ACC jail at 3:19 AM. Holyfield was released less than an hour later, at 4:08 AM (2/2).

Holyfield played in five games as a freshman in 2016. His ran the ball for a season high four times for 27 yards against Ole Miss. He also caught one pass for 19 yards vs. the Rebels. He is expected to contribute some this fall, but with senior running backs Nick Chubb and Sony Michel back for their final seasons, Holyfield’s role on the team is expected to be more of a backup role.

The University of Georgia student handbook states that athletes arrested on drug or alcohol charged for the first tim, face a 10 percent of all game suspension for the concurrent or upcoming season. For football, this translates to one game.

Earlier this spring, sophomore wide receiver Riley Ridley was also arrested on a misdemeanor marijuana charge.
