No. 5 UGA Softball shuts out Georgia Tech

ATLANTA – A solo home run off the bat of Alyssa DiCarlo in the fifth inning proved the difference maker in #5 Georgia's 1-0 victory over Georgia Tech Wednesday.

“It was a phenomenal day by Alyssa,” head coach Lu Harris-Champer said. “She played ‘wow’ defense including a nice play up the middle to end the game. The way she’s seeing the ball, she’s hitting it really well. Additionally, I thought Cortni really had a great day as well.”

The Bulldogs improve to 33-4 on the season with the victory.

Brittany Gray improved to 16-1 with the complete-game shutout. She allowed just three hits and fanned five batters. The shutout was her seventh of the season.

The offense outhit the Yellow Jackets (19-16), 6-3 Wednesday evening. Cortni Emanuel recorded the lone multi-hit game, going 2-for-4.

The four-inning scoreless tie was broken in the top of the fifth when DiCarlo blasted her 14th home run to left field. The solo shot, her 38th career home run, cracked Georgia’s career top-10 list.

DiCarlo spun a 6-3 double play up the middle to end the contest.

Georgia returns to Jack Turner Stadium for an eight-game homestand beginning with a three-game Southeastern Conference series against Missouri this weekend. First pitch Friday is at 6 p.m.
