The Southeastern Conference Baseball Tournament begins today in Hoover Alabama: the University of Georgia Diamond Dog baseball team doesn't play until tomorrow, when they'll take on the winner of today's Florida-Texas A&M game. The Bulldog softball team saw its season come to a close with a Monday tournament loss at Minnesota.

From Sean Stevenson, UGA Sports Communications…

The University of Georgia softball team brought its 2019 season to a close Monday, falling to #7 Minnesota in the NCAA Minneapolis Regional Final, 8-1.

Georgia concludes the season with an overall 42-19 record.

At the plate, Jordan Doggett was responsible for two of Georgia’s five hits while Alysen Febrey, Mahlena O’Neal, and Jessica Morgan combined for the other three.

In what was her final appearance in the circle, senior Kylie Bass (12-5) pitched two and one-thirds innings in her start. Alley Cutting pitched the next three and two-thirds innings, fanning five Gophers. Madison McPherson pitched the last inning for the Bulldogs.

Minnesota’s (44-12) Natalie DenHartog knocked a three-run home run in the top of the first to take an early 3-0 lead on the Bulldogs.

The Gophers found themselves with bases loaded and one out in the top of the third. A single dropped into left by Allie Arneson drove in a run, 4-0 Minnesota. Cutting entered for Bass and surrendered a two-run single through the right side to add to the lead, 6-0. With bases loaded and two out, the final out came on a pickoff between second and third but the runner on third scored prior to the putout, widening the lead to 7-0 after two and a half innings.

After a wild pitch put Tyler Armistead in scoring position with two out, Morgan lined a base hit over the centerfielder which rolled to the wall, allowing Armistead to score and putting Georgia on the board in the fifth inning, 7-1.

A two-out RBI single in the top of the sixth got the run back for Minnesota, bringing the lead back to seven for the Gophers, 8-1.

Minnesota will host #10 LSU in the Super Regional round next weekend in Minneapolis.

Georgia will look ahead to the 2020 season beginning in February. Georgia will carry eight seniors on next season’s roster.
