GDOT seeks feedback on plans for 10 Loop

The Georgia DOT is looking for input on plans for upgrades on the Highway 10 Loop around Athens. Transportation planners have set their sights on the Loop at Highways 8 and 15.

From the Athens-Clarke Co government website…

In order to improve structural integrity of the bridges as it relates to the design vehicle, reduce deterioration of the bridge decks, and improve the low vertical clearance on SR 15 westbound, GDOT proposes to replace the existing SR 15/SR10 Loop EB and WB at SR 8/US 29 bridges in Clarke County for approximately 0.436 mile. The existing 298-foot long twin bridges along SR 15/SR 10 Loop over SR 8/US 29 would be replaced with twin 315-foot long bridges with two, 12-foot lanes per bridge. Additionally, the proposed bridges would be constructed to provide an 8-foot wide outside shoulder and a 4-foot wide inside shoulder. The proposed bridges would be raised 3 feet to meet the minimum vertical clearance under the bridge and to accommodate concrete beams. A 0.52-mile off-site detour on Old Hull Road and Athena Drive is required for construction.
