Child molestation allegations

A employee of the University of Georgia is arrested on child molestation charges: John Lindsey is 26 years old, from Monroe, a worker in UGA’s Grounds and Facilities Department. He was, at last report, still in the Clarke County jail after allegedly having sexual contact with a child in Athens. The GBI and UGA campus police are investigating.

The Morgan County Sheriff’s Office says a 36 year-old woman from Oconee County is facing a murder charge stemming from the death of her 7 year-old child: the body of Maddox Jones was found Monday at his mother’s home in Morgan County. Alison Jones was, at last report, being held without bond in the Morgan County Detention Center on counts that include murder and aggravated assault. Investigators say her son was shot to death.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office says a man and woman arrested on theft charges are also looking at drug possession counts: Joey Ledbetter and Josephine Sapp were caught with what Jackson County Sheriff’s Office investigators say was methamphetamine and heroin.

There is an ongoing investigation in Gwinnett County after the death of an elderly woman who was killed in a house fire in Duluth.

An Elberton woman is arrested on financial fraud charges: the Elbert County Sheriff’s Office says 39 year-old Sonya Byrum was booked into the Elbert County jail on counts that include forgery. Byrum’s bond was set at $17,000.
