Police reports: Athens man arrested after shooting, UNG student injured in accident

Child abduction suspect arrested

There are now charges of filing a false report of a crime leveled against an Athens man who told police he was a shooting victim: Athens-Clarke County Police say the man shot himself in the leg, apparently accidentally, at a residence on Lexington Heights.

The Georgia State Patrol says it is not expecting to file charges in the case of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle on the campus of the University of North Georgia: there were non life-threatening injuries in the accident that happened on the UNG campus in Dahlonega. The 22 year-old woman was treated at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.

There were no injuries reported in a massive fire at a lumber yard in White County: the blaze burned upwards of 3 million board feet of lumber at the North Georgia Hardwood in Cleveland. 40 firefighters worked to contain the blaze.

Charles Chambers is behind bars: the 46 year-old who was wanted on child abduction charges in Habersham County was arrested in Lumpkin County. He’s the biological and non-custodial father of an 18-month-old boy who was taken last month.
