Oconee Co Commissioners say no to Publix rezone

A-CC, Winterville Authority meets today

Last night’s Oconee County Commission vote was 3 to 1, with Commissioner Mark Thomas casting the only vote in favor of the Publix rezone: Commissioners denied a developer’s request to change the zoning of 46 acres at Mars Hill Road and the Oconee Connector, meaning plans for a massive new shopping center off Highway 316 in Oconee County are off the table.

There is another meeting of the Joint Development Authority for Athens-Clarke County and the City of Winterville, a session set for 5:30 this afternoon.

The City Council in Nicholson has given a green light to a plan to use more than 118 thousand special purposes local option sales tax dollars on road improvements in Nicholson.

The City Council in Maysville is looking at a plan to provide funding for new computers for the public library in Maysville.

Lumpkin County Commissioners name two finalists to replace Stan Kelley as County Manager in Dahlonega: either Alan Ours or Alicia Vaughan is expected to be chosen for the Manager’s post later this month. Kelley is retiring in June after 16 years on the job.
