The homeowners of a Whitehall Township residence were startled Tuesday when the bald eagle shattered the plate glass, WGAL-TV reported. It happened at about 5:30 p.m. EST, the television station reported.

“More than likely, he was seeing a reflection of the sky or simply light and felt that he could continue through it,” Kathy Uhler, director of the Pocono Wildlife Rehabilitation and Education Center, told WFMZ-TV.

Police responded to the home and found the bird on the ground, according to WGAL. Officers called a wildlife expert, but by the time she arrived, the bird of prey had flown away.

Uhler said it was a good sign that the bird flew away.

“It’s not every night that you have a bald eagle crashing through a window down there,” Uhler told WFMZ. “The bird is obviously not feeling great tonight so we’d like to prevent those collisions when we can.”
