Fake bail money helps Maine police execute major drug bust

AUBURN, Maine — Things went from bad to worse for two Maine residents who allegedly tried to bail a friend out of jail with counterfeit money.

Deputies in Androscoggin County found drugs in the two residents’ vehicle, including cocaine, methamphetamine and fentanyl, WGME-TV reported.

Angelina Quirion, 39, of Bangor, and Adam Jalbert, 33, of Caribou, each were charged four counts of aggravated drug trafficking and with violating conditions of release based on earlier drug charges, the Sun Journal reported.

Deputies said that on Jan. 20, police found Quirion and Jalbert waiting in a vehicle outside the jail, WGME reported. Both had active bail conditions from previous drug arrests, the television station reported.

According to a news release from Auburn Police Department Deputy Chief Tim Cougle, investigators searched the vehicle and discovered 112.3 grams of cocaine base, 165.3 grams of cocaine, 299.5 grams of fentanyl, 492.3 grams of methamphetamine and a 9mm pistol. Both Quirion and Jalbert were arrested, the Sun Journal reported.

The day after the arrests, Maine Drug Enforcement Agency agents searched Quirion and Jalbert’s apartment in Bangor, WGME reported. Agents said they found two pounds of fentanyl, nearly two pounds of methamphetamine, more than $30,000 in cash, two handguns and an AR-15 style rifle, according to the television station.

The street value of the drugs seized in Bangor is approximately $250,000, police said.

The couple remained jailed Wednesday on $100,000 bail, the Sun Journal reported.
