HENRICO COUNTY, Va. — A retiree won a $250,000 lottery prize earlier this month with numbers that he said came to him in a dream, Virginia Lottery officials said Thursday.
Alonzo Coleman matched the six winning numbers for the June 11 drawing of the lottery’s Bank a Million game.
“It was hard to believe,” he said, according to lottery officials. “It still hasn’t hit me yet.”
Coleman had bought a Bank a Million ticket from Glenside Corner Mart and split his $2 wager four ways. One of his sets of numbers took the $250,000 prize, officials said.
The Bank a Million game offers top prizes of $1 million, $500,000 and $250,000 after taxes, depending on whether a player wagers $2 or splits the wager two or four ways. The odds of winning any prize in the game are 1 in about 18, while the odds of taking a top prize are 1 in 3.8 million, according to lottery officials.
The Virginia Lottery generates more than $2 million for the state’s K-12 public schools each day, amounting to more than $765 million in funding for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2021, officials said.
