Phoenix police find fentanyl pills hidden inside spare tire

PHOENIX — A Phoenix woman is accused of hiding 166,000 fentanyl pills hidden in the spare tire of a vehicle, authorities said.

Alexa Magana, 20, was arrested Friday and charged with possession and transportation of narcotic drugs for sale, according to Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office online booking records.

According to the Phoenix Police Department, officers were conducting a drug investigation when they recognized Magana from a previous traffic stop in June, KNXV-TV reported.

According to a police report, Magana told that she did not have drugs on her at the time but had delivered fentanyl previously and had recently stopped doing so.

Magana called an undercover police officer Wednesday and the officer directed her to a fast-food restaurant where she was taken into custody, KSAZ-TV reported. According to the police report, Magana told police she had a duffel bag in the back seat of her vehicle that contained 125,000 fentanyl pills, the television station reported. There were also fentanyl pills inside a spare tire, according to the police report.

After obtaining a search warrant, police found 166,000 fentanyl pills and $2,000 in cash in Magana’s vehicle, KNXV reported.
