In a news release, Guinness World Records said the pair as Peter Parker/Spider-Man and Norman Osborn/Green Goblin made their first appearance 19 years and 225 days before the release of the latest installation in the franchise. That beats the previous record held by Hugh Jackman as Wolverine and Patrick Stewart as Professor X, who had a record of 16 years and 232 days between their appearances in “X-Men” and “Logan”.

“Spider-Man: No Way Home” broke records when it was released in December, becoming the first movie to earn $1 billion at the box office since 2019, CNN reported. The movie features Tom Holland, Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield, who have all previously played Peter Parker/Spider-Man, together on screen.

While Tobey Maguire and Willem Dafoe now hold the Guinness World Record, they nearly didn’t play the roles at all. Initially, the studio had been interested in Leonardo DiCaprio, Heath Ledger and Jude Law for the role of Spider-Man, and Dafoe was only cast after the role was turned down by Nicolas Cage, Jim Carrey and John Malkovich, Guinness World Records reported.
