According to WPIX and WABC, the shooting occurred about 5:30 a.m. on Ely Avenue in the Bronx. Marshals were trying to arrest 35-year-old Andre Sterling, a suspect wanted in connection with the shooting of a Massachusetts state trooper last month, when the shootout began, the news outlets reported.

Sterling suffered a fatal gunshot wound, while the three Marshals sustained injuries that weren’t considered to be life-threatening, WABC reported. Another suspect also was wounded, according to the news station.

Authorities had been seeking Sterling in connection with the Nov. 20 shooting of Massachusetts State Police Trooper John Lennon in Hyannis, according to WABC. Lennon, who suffered a gunshot wound to the hand, was treated at an area hospital and released Nov. 23, police said in a news release.
