More than 30,000 websites were affected by Thursday’s outage, PCMag reported, citing IT company SolarWinds. Many of the affected sites appeared to be working by 12:45 p.m. EDT.

Officials with cloud services company Akamai Technologies said they were investigating a “service disruption” around 12:30 p.m. which appeared to have caused the issues. The company said a software configuration update implemented around 11:45 a.m. triggered a Domain Name System (DNS) bug which caused some sites to become unavailable.

“The disruption lasted up to an hour,” according to Akamai Technologies. “Upon rolling back the software configuration update, the services resumed normal operations.”

The issue had apparently been resolved before 12:50 p.m.

“Akamai can confirm this was not a cyberattack against Akamai’s platform,” company officials said. “We apologize for the inconvenience that resulted. We are reviewing our software update process to prevent future disruptions.”

This is the third reported incident in the last two months, according to Reuters. In June, several sites across the internet went down due to an issue at Fastly, a company which provides content delivery services for several websites.

Authorities in several states also reported 911 outages on Thursday, although the issues did not appear to be related. Officials with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Office in Virginia said the problem stemmed from a cut fiber line.
