Georgia women’s basketball fifth year senior Diamond Battles and Bulldog men’s basketball junior Jabri Abdur-Rahim were named to the Southeastern Conference Men’s and Women’s Basketball Leadership Council, the SEC announced Thursday.

Battles — the 2022 American Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, AAC Tournament MVP and unanimous first-team All-Conference performer at UCF — transferred to the University of Georgia for her fifth year of eligibility. The Winter Haven, Fla., native has been a leader both on and off the court, serving as her team’s representative on the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee while with the Knights. She assisted with the program’s Toy Drive and the Pack to Attack Hunger initiative, which provided lunches for homeless families in downtown Orlando.

Abdur-Rahim is in his second year as a member of both the SEC Leadership Council for basketball and the SAAC. He also was recognized as Georgia’s representative on the SEC Community Service team for men’s basketball last season after leading the team’s connection with the Athens Boys & Girls Club, where Derrick Floyd, a co-captain of Georgia’s 1983 Final Four team, serves as Director of Operations. On the court, Abdur-Rahim was one of only three Bulldogs to play in all 32 games last season. He averaged 6.9 points and 3.2 rebounds and posted eight double-figure scoring outputs.

Abdur-Rahim and Battles also represented the University of Georgia at the SEC’s Student-Athlete Leadership Council back in June.

As part of the Men’s and Women’s Basketball Leadership Council, the Bulldog duo will serve as a conduit of communication from their teams to the conference office on issues related to student-athlete experience, student-athlete wellness, and to provide feedback on proposed rules governing the SEC and NCAA.

The council consists of one male representative and one female representative from each of the SEC’s 14 institutions. The Men’s Basketball Leadership Council and the Women’s Basketball Leadership Council comprise two components of the SEC Student-Athlete Leadership Council. The third component is the Football Leadership Council, which meets each February.
