ANCHORAGE, Alaska — A moose in Anchorage, Alaska made an unscheduled visit to a hospital Thursday.
The moose walked through the front door of Providence Health Park. Staff members said that the moose saw the decorative potted plants through the glass of the front of the building, KTUU reported.
Patients and staff saw the moose walk straight through up to a tree and it snacked on some of the stems, the news outlet said.
The hospital’s director of security, Randy Hughes, said the moose triggered the sensors on the automatic doors at the hospital’s cancer center building, according to The Associated Press.
“We received a call from one of our tenants advising that a moose had just walked into the building,” Hughes said according to the AP.
Hughes reportedly said that he believes it’s the same moose that has been recently hanging around the hospital grounds, the AP reported. An announcement was made over the intercom about the moose being at the hospital for safety reasons but moose are common around Alaska.
“But it seemed like it was a magnet for people to come and see it,” Hughes said, according to the AP. “It’s not every day you get a moose walking into a building, so everybody was excited to take pictures and stuff like that.”
The moose appeared to be too busy snacking the plants around the hospital to notice what was going on around. Security officers tried to corral the moose and get it out the front. Eventually, one of the officers grabbed the plant that the moose was eating and was able to bring him yourself, the AP reported.
This was not the first time an animal tried to get inside the hospital. Also, apparently, some bears tried to get into the emergency room, the AP said.
